Upskilling for a new client-facing role

Diploma in Business Sustainability
Why did you choose the Diploma in business sustainability? What was the reason for taking the course?
In September, I changed my role within Dell from leading a customer-facing team to a new role, which is more of an individual contributor role involved in helping our customer-facing professionals meet their customer sustainability challenges and help drive sustainability for their customers. To achieve this, I was looking for a course that could give me a basic understanding of sustainability and its implementation in a business environment. I also hoped to gain some tips and guidelines on planning and implementing sustainability effectively. I wanted to avoid taking a shot in the dark and get educated in the space to better understand sustainability within a business environment.
Why did you choose to study with the Institute of Sustainability Studies?
I conducted some research when I was searching for a course. I considered UCD, UCC, and TUD since I had previously done a course there on digitalisation through Dell. However, I came across the Institute of Sustainability Studies and received positive feedback from someone who had completed the course. The duration of the course was also a deciding factor for me, as it only took three months to complete. Additionally, it was cost-effective for me at the time. I was looking for a foundational and comprehensive course, and the Diploma suited my purposes at that moment in time.
How did you find the course? What was your experience overall? Has it helped you in your new role?
Overall, I had a great experience. The course structure was helpful, and I appreciated being able to review the content at a later stage. The early lectures were particularly impactful, giving me a better understanding of sustainability in a corporate setting, and I found the focus on sustainability plan development and implementation really beneficial. These modules particularly gave me practical learnings that I could use in my role at Dell. I also really liked the exploration of decarbonisation and circular economy principles, and I think they will also be helpful in my role and are definitely ones along with the first 3 modules that I will go back and reference for help in terms of putting in place a plan and structure around sustainability. And again, there are other parts of the course because it is a general course. There are other parts that wouldn’t be as relevant to me right now, but down the line, they may help. Did the Diploma help me, and will it help me? Yes, it’s fair to say that it has.
Would you recommend the Diploma to other people?
Yes, I would recommend it, and I have recommended it to other people looking for an entry point into the topic. I think it’s a great course to do that. When you factor in things like time, content, cost, and how it was delivered overall, yeah, I definitely got a positive feel and experience from the course, so yeah, I would definitely recommend it.
