Business Spotlights: EcoEnergy Improvements

Business spotlight - EcoEnergy Improvements

A family-run business committed to sustainability

EcoEnergy Improvements is a family-run business based in Leinster, dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability through solar energy solutions. While the company itself is relatively new, having been established just a year ago, it is built on the strong foundation of Heat Pumps Ireland, the McElroy family’s business that has thrived in the heating industry for over 20 years.

Recognising the growing demand for renewable energy, the company expanded into the solar energy sector, helping homeowners and businesses transition to cleaner energy sources. “This initiative is a significant step towards reducing carbon footprints and promoting local sustainability,” says Paul McElroy, Director of EcoEnergy Improvements.

Providing renewable energy solutions for homes and businesses

EcoEnergy Improvements specialises in solar panel installations, offering tailored energy solutions that help customers reduce reliance on non-renewable power, cut electricity costs, and contribute to a greener future. Their impact can be seen across various sectors, with recent projects including installations at Dundalk Golf Club, St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church, The Hangar Company, Intact Software, Connect Credit Union, and National Tile.

“We are known not only for our expertise in renewable energy but also for our strong ties to the Dundalk community”, Paul explains. “By providing solar solutions, we’re making clean energy accessible to businesses and homeowners alike, supporting both environmental progress and local economic growth.”

Overcoming sustainability challenges in business operations

Like many businesses, EcoEnergy Improvements faced challenges in managing operational costs and energy consumption. Rising energy prices and the risk of overconsumption prompted them to adopt a more sustainable and self-sufficient approach.

“We installed solar panels at our own facility to generate renewable energy and significantly cut down on our energy costs,” Paul shares. “Additionally, we integrated a heat pump system to improve heating efficiency, a high-performance ventilation system to reduce energy waste, and EV chargers to encourage our staff to adopt greener transportation.”

These investments have helped the company reduce running costs, lower carbon emissions, and improve energy independence, aligning their operations with the very solutions they offer to clients.

Why sustainability matters in business

Sustainability is not just an industry trend; it’s a core value that drives EcoEnergy Improvements. “We practise what we preach,” Paul states. “By equipping our own facility with solar panels and heat pumps, we experience the benefits first-hand, making it easier to support our clients in their sustainability journeys.”

The company is also focused on supply chain efficiency and client collaboration to drive meaningful change. “We work closely with suppliers to source sustainable materials and actively involve our clients in the process. By offering personalised consultations, we ensure that their specific sustainability goals are met,” Paul adds.

Key success indicators: The impact of going green

Since implementing sustainable energy solutions, EcoEnergy Improvements has seen remarkable environmental and financial benefits.

  • The company has cut operational costs through on-site renewable energy generation.
  • It has tracked and measured significant environmental impact, with 1.4 million units of electricity generated from client installations and 662 tonnes of coal avoided this year alone.
  • Employee engagement has also improved, as staff take pride in working for a business committed to environmental responsibility.

“Our team morale is higher than ever because we’re actively contributing to something that makes a difference,” Paul says. Moreover, sustainability knowledge is at the heart of EcoEnergy Improvements’ strategy. “To offer the best solutions, we need to stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry developments,” Paul notes. The company invests in ongoing learning, attending workshops, certifications, and industry conferences to keep up with new sustainability trends and best practices.

Beyond internal education, EcoEnergy Improvements also focuses on community education. Paul explains: “We believe in empowering the public with information. By hosting informational sessions and providing educational resources, we help individuals and businesses make informed decisions about sustainability”.

Advice for other businesses pursuing sustainability

For businesses looking to become more sustainable, Paul recommends starting small and strategic. “Sustainability can seem overwhelming, but the key is to identify your biggest areas of impact and take actionable steps. Whether it’s reducing energy consumption, minimising waste, or adopting greener materials, incremental changes add up over time,” he advises.

He also emphasises the importance of engaging employees in sustainability efforts: “It’s not just a top-down initiative. When staff feel involved and empowered, sustainability becomes part of the company culture.”

The road ahead for EcoEnergy Improvements

Looking ahead, EcoEnergy Improvements aims to increase solar panel installations and expand renewable energy solutions across the northeast of Ireland. The company also plans to amplify its sustainability education efforts, offering more workshops and community outreach programmes to encourage wider adoption of green energy.

“We’re dedicated to making renewable energy more accessible and practical for everyone. The time to switch to solar is now, and we’re here to make that transition as seamless as possible,” Paul concludes.
