Graduate Story: Megan McKeown

Graduate Story Megan McKeown

I feel much more comfortable talking about sustainability with customers and colleagues

Megan McKeown
Technical Compliance Manager at Greenfields Ireland
Diploma in Business Sustainability Graduate

Can you tell me about your professional background?

I’ve been working as a Technical Compliance Manager for a dairy trading company for a year now. The company has recently expanded my role to cover sustainability as we are noticing a rise in customer requests for information regarding our environmental impact.

Why did you decide to do a business sustainability course?

I felt I needed a greater background knowledge of sustainability to help answer customer queries and to create a sustainability culture in the company I work for. I also thought doing the course would provide me with a deeper understanding of sustainability as a whole, as opposed to focusing solely on environmental issues.

Why did you choose the Institute of Sustainability Studies as your educational provider?

My manager had been recommended the course by another company who had several employees complete the course. After looking at the course modules, I knew it would give me an in-depth and more varied overview of sustainability compared to other courses I looked at. Also, I knew the content would be more relevant to me as it was created by an Irish company. Additionally, the accreditation the course provided was a massive bonus.

Tell me about your learning experience on the course

I really enjoyed the course as a whole. The modules covered a wide range of topics, which were also in sufficient detail. I feel much more comfortable talking about sustainability with customers and colleagues, and know how to access relevant resources and where to find further information on sustainability.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about doing the course?

I would say go for it. The course is engaging and provides real-world examples to aid learning.
