Tell me about your professional background
I ran my own business for 20 years as a Hairdresser in the West End of London, and naturally, I decided to take a route towards working more sustainably. I was London’s first certified sustainable salon, so we were making small changes all the time. I did this without getting any education, and I’ve become known in the industry as a sustainable person to go to for guidance. Around 18 months ago, I decided to close the business and pursue a different career path. I’m now working as a freelance Sustainability Consultant for salons.
Why did you decide to do a business sustainability course?
When I closed the salon, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was pursuing next, but I knew I wanted to back up my knowledge with something substantial. This is what led me to the course at ISS, and I went straight into doing it after I closed the business.
Why did you choose the Institute of Sustainability Studies as your educational provider?Â
I looked at a few other courses, but I liked how the ISS Diploma in Business Sustainability was comprehensive and covered all key areas of business sustainability. Looking at the curriculum, it ticked all of my boxes in terms of what knowledge I wanted to acquire.
Can you tell me about your learning experience and how you found navigating the course?
Education was never really my thing, but I’ve always had a passion for sustainability and entrepreneurship. I like to test things out and come up with new ideas, and I’m not scared to implement things. With all this in mind, I think the course was really accessible, and I enjoyed how visual it was because I learn better that way. I liked a lot of the tutors delivering the modules and found them to be engaging.
What would you say to someone on the fence about doing the Diploma course?
I think any business should have some form of knowledge of sustainability and this course will help them on that journey.
