Can you tell me about your professional background?
I’m a Project Support Officer in the Sustainability and Climate Change team at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. My primary focus is monitoring our greenhouse gas emissions, specifically Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
Why did you decide to do this course?
Our Manager did it and they enjoyed it, so they referred me and other colleagues to the course. He felt it would be good for us to have an accreditation so we can move towards being a council of excellence with respect to sustainability.
How did you find navigating the course?
I think navigating the platform was seamless, and the content was good. There was a variety of content formats like videos, text, and graphics, which helped maintain my concentration. Taking the knowledge checks was a good interactive medium, too.
What has been the impact of doing the course on your organisation?
It has allowed our team to go in a more strategic direction towards becoming a council of excellence. We have the knowledge, and now we just need to fully apply it practically. The course has helped me in some of the projects I am working on, especially the one around our greenhouse gas usage. I had some prior learning before doing the course, but I do feel I was able to get a more in-depth understanding, especially in sustainability from a business lens. Sustainability is also an evolving field, so it has been great to get the most up-to-date information.
