“The courses gave me better insight into the field of sustainability”
Paul Condy

Diploma in Business Sustainability and Certificate in CSRD Graduate
Can you tell me about your professional background?
I studied environmental chemistry, and I spent the first nine years of my career in environmental consultancy, starting off in a laboratory and then moving on to Contaminated Land. Things changed drastically in 2010 when I moved to Stornoway and took a job in aquaculture. In 2018, things changed again; I stayed with the same company but joined their newly created Sustainability Team, where I’ve been since.
Why did you decide to do business sustainability courses?
As sustainability is a very fast-changing field (even in the last six years, it has changed dramatically), I was keen to get some formal training.Â
Why did you choose the Institute of Sustainability Studies as your educational provider?
There were a number of reasons I chose ISS specifically. For one thing, I found the courses pretty cost-effective compared to others. They also seemed to be broken up into self-learning chunks, which I thought was useful. I was originally just looking for a course in CSRD, but when I saw the Diploma curriculum, it was so comprehensive that I figured, why not do it to cover all bases?Â
How did you find navigating the courses and our platform?
Ultimately, both courses gave me better insight into the entire field of sustainability. I found the course really accessible and easy to jump into when I had some time available. The fact it was online and self-paced helped. I also appreciated having a year of access so I could get involved in the events. I went to a couple of online tutorials and enjoyed them. The experts were very knowledgeable.
What modules or topics did you enjoy the most across the courses?
I enjoyed learning about sustainable finance and the treatment of people in the workplace.Â
What has been the impact of undertaking these courses on your career?
I got a solid understanding of CSRD and actually how to approach it, as well as a good, broad overview of sustainability as a whole and how to implement it in an organisation successfully. Having the qualification also enhances my professional profile, and having completed these courses, I’m definitely keen to continue learning in this field.Â
Would you recommend these courses to other professionals?
Definitely! If you want a broad overview of sustainability and the ability to learn at your own pace through an interactive online platform, these courses are a great choice.Â
